Devices - How do you check for Chromebook keyboard errors?

Issue 

Students are pressing a key on their Chromebook but the wrong character is being typed or the wrong function is being activated.

Solution

#1 Check the US Keyboard layout is selected:

• Select the time in the bottom-right of screen

• Go to Settings

• Click on Device

• Ensure "US" keyboard is selected in "Keyboard and inputs" option.

#2 Check the Keyboard Settings:

• Go to Settings > Device > Keyboard and Inputs

• Ensure that "Press and hold to automatically repeat the key." is selected.

#3 Check for Chromebook Updates:

• Go to Settings > About ChromeOS

• Click on Check for updates and install any available updates.

#4 Reset the Keyboard Shortcuts:

• Go to Settings > Device > View keyboard shortcuts

• Click on Reset all shortcuts to restore original keyboard shortcuts.

#5 Set your keyboard language:

• Go to Settings > Device > Keyboard and Inputs > Input settings.

• Go to Input methods and select "Add input methods"

• Select the keyboard languages you want to use then click Add
